Quite a few people are making Double Basses in USA now. I wouldn't say that we are competing with the high production from abroad but at least in the quality area we are putting up a pretty good fight..

Weapons of Mass Destruction.

It's pretty safe to say that those manufacturing jobs won't be outsourced to China for a long, long while. A long, long, while.

Yo, take a trip down to oz and visit Richard Prowse. You seem like him almost with a different screen name.

The decline or Manuf. in USA is largely do to people wasting time on the internet.

I would guess maybe Benjamin Willard as far as a Double Bass sized instrument goes. He predates Prescott and may have taught him. The Back as well the Top was made from Pine on Willard's basses. So they say..

Crayola crayons are still made in the U.S. Was kinda shocked, but in a good way, because my daughter was trying to eat them at the time of discovery.

The Amish still make great products. Leather goods especially come to mind.

Steinway pianos
Kanstul brass instruments
Gibson (Nashville, TN, USA) Guitars
Heritage guitars (Kalamazoo, MI)
Fender (Fullerton, CA, USA) Guitars
Conn-Selmer Brass and Woodwind (Elkhart, IN, USA)
King brass instruments
Ken Smith Basses
Upton Basses (all or some?)
Rickenbacker guitars and basses
Martin (some) guitars
Engelhardt basses
Premium paisley bandana's from Tansclub (make great polishing cloths for any of the above instruments!)
CAD (some) tube condenser recording microphones
Acoustic Image amplifiers
Ampeg amplifiers
Peavey (some, but not all) amplifiers, guitars, basses, and sound systems

Glock pistols
Smith & Wesson Pistols
Derringer pistols

If you want to play music or kill something, you can do either with a high quality American made product.

I know there are still some great American made tools, particularly the hand tools;- check Highland Hardware for availability.

Seeing that this thread has morphed into a life of it's own I have to add that Glock pistols are entirely manufactured in Austria

Maybe so, but Sig Sauer is made in USA (New Hampshire). I know, Germany too.

There is a large Glock facility in Marietta, Ga. It appears that it is only a warranty service and distribution facility, but in the 80's everyone called it the "Glock plant". Apparently it was only for warranty service and not full assembly or manufacture. Sorry about the mistake.
