Default Smith String Tension

Just a general question: Are smith strings slightly higher tension than other strings? I noticed on smith basses and some of my other basses, (especially short scale basses) it tightens up the tone considerably and the overtones / harmonics seem higher. It seems like the tension is a little higher?
