I would guess maybe Benjamin Willard as far as a Double Bass sized instrument goes. He predates Prescott and may have taught him. The Back as well the Top was made from Pine on Willard's basses. So they say..

Crayola crayons are still made in the U.S. Was kinda shocked, but in a good way, because my daughter was trying to eat them at the time of discovery.
