My friend ( now deceased ) bought this in NY in the mid to 70's. It has not been refinished under his ownership. Whether or not it was before, I don't know. So, "new Chinese".... NO. The finish is excellent because he took such great care of it. He performed with 2 other basses. This one didn't "get out much."
