My double bass is a plywood, but I've spent years tweaking it and I reckon it'd give any wooden bass a run for its money! I've got some recordings that I'll try and post some time... not very good with computers.

Nothing at all wrong with ply. Last week I made a short trip out to Bob Branstetter's place and spent a few minutes with his restored Kays. There are barely words to describe the playability and tone of those basses.

My ply doesn't sound too bad next to my brother's 100+ year old French bass, though obviously not as good! |
