The extension is beveled, just not quite as much as the Rhomberg. I did not notice any sharp edges but you point is well taken.

Ken, we (local luthiers) see this all the time cellos and basses especially but also with violins and viola. I think the factories are both uninformed as well as compromising because no single set up...

The bass is strung with Evah weich's and sounds slightly less edgy with the varnish. I have not strung it with anything else because it seems to like the EPW's just fine.

Hey Ken could you tear yourself away from your Martini :p long enough to take a look and hear the sound with varnish? I think it makes a difference. It may be a bit fuller and mellower, not as harsh....

Another thing is the angle of the neck in relation to the back.

I am asking here. If the neck angles back too much it makes it hard for the left arm and the player tends to want to lean back...
